CSH Painted Saints...

The great thing about Catholic Schoolhouse is that you can use it as your primary curriculum (along with separate Math and Phonics programs), use it to supplement your curriculum, or start/join a Catholic Schoolhouse group in your area.

If you choose to use CSH as your main curriculum, the possibilities are ENDLESS.  You can stick to the Tour Guide and watch your kids learn or you can branch off into unit studies, check out different books on various saints/historical figures, and more.

Here is one idea of how to take CSH just a step further:  painted saint dolls.

From Year 2, St. Cecilia:

From Year 3, St. Ignatius of Loyola:

and St. Theresa of Calcutta:

Simple wooden bodies that can be found here (for female) and here (for male), some acrylic paint, paintbrushes of assorted sizes, a picture book of saints, and a clear coat finish are all you need to get started!

Since Catholic Schoolhouse allows for even the youngest of children to learn the information presented, these little saint dolls are perfect for the little ones to hold and play with while learning about the great saints throughout all three years.

Happy painting!

Free Master Composer Report and Music Study

Mozart, Bach, Strauss--the Catholic Schoolhouse CD's are absolutely a necessary part of your child's education when it comes to learning about the different composers throughout history.

To further your child's knowledge of each composer, print out the Master Composer Report and Music Study from the link below.  When was the composer born?  When did he die?  Where did he live?  Plot the different events and dates on the map given, and have your child sketch a picture of the composer.  Finally, let the child listen to the music sample on the Catholic Schoolhouse CD while filling out the Music Study page.  Why did this composer write this particular piece?  When did he write it?  How did this piece make you feel?

The free Master Composer Report and Music Study can be used throughout all three years of the Catholic Schoolhouse Tour Guide!
